SPEECH COMMUNICATION SCIENCES &
ADVANCED COMPUTING IN THE HUMANITIES

Socrates Thematic Network Projects, 4th year (Nov. 1, 1999 - Oct. 31, 2000).

Information for the joint meeting in Praha, March 17-19, 2000

1. Aims, background

The TNP on Speech Communication Sciences and the TNP on Advanced Computing in the Humanities (ACO*HUM) have defined specific dissemination and exploitation goals for their fourth project year.

The TNPs will cooperate on the following common goals:

All former working groups of Speech Communication Sciences and two working groups of ACO*HUM (Computational Linguistics & Language Engineering and Computing for Non-European Languages) will closely cooperate and regroup in new 'horizontal' working groups according to themes (see below).  In each of these working groups, experts from different fields will meet to merge results and arrive at specific dissemination products.

The SOCRATES TNPs and ELSNET will co-operate in such a way that the SOCRATES TNPs can profit from the substantial technical web support that the ELSNET III project can offer.  This support is provided under the HLT programme and it realised by the companies ARAX and VDIVDE-IT. Together with ELSNET we have defined some GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR JEWELS.

EACL and ISCA will be involved wherever appropriate.
