    The Human Communication Research Centre, University of Edinburgh, is
    seeking a research programmer to work on projects involving natural
    language understanding and generation in tutorial dialogue systems.

    You will provide programming support for building dialogue systems in
    domains such as tutoring basic electricity and electronics and
    calculus. Programming tasks include the design and implementation of
    graphical user interfaces and tools for data annotation and
    analysis. Other possible tasks include knowledge representation and
    reasoning support and system integration.

    Ideally you will have a strong programming experience, a BSc or MS in
    computer science or artificial intelligence, with experience in Java,
    and user interface design. Experience with knowledge representation
    and reasoning, XML processing, Lisp or Prolog is also desirable.

    The appointment has an initial fixed duration of 2 years, with
    opportunities for continuation, and is expected to start July 1st
    2005, or shortly thereafter.
