Subject: positions open

I have been asked by TextWise/Manning & Napier Information Systems, to which I am a consultant, to alert the international CG community to the immediate availability of three positions in a project involving CG-compatible natural language processing.

TextWise is a fast-growing research and development company specializing in innovative information retrieval/text processing technologies and system building. It is based in New York State at Syracuse University in facilities contributed by the School of Information Studies. It operates in a pleasant no-frills academic environment from its own lab now employing an international staff of twenty people. It has developed to the marketing stage a multi-modular search engine that has recently been adopted commercially by the United States Patent and Trade Office for use by examiners and analysts in prior art computer software searches. The search engine, called DR-LINK (Document Retrieval through Linguistic Knowledge) is also in use by several other large beta-testers in commerce, the media and government. Based in large part on work by Elizabeth Liddy, TextWise President, DR-LINK operates at several levels of linguistic knowledge. In addition, TextWise has other projects in data extraction and analysis and in machine translation.

The three new staff will work on a project with great growth potential. Though TextWise is a start-up firm, it is linked to Manning & Napier Information Services, a wholly owned spinoff of Manning & Napier Investment Advisers, a $5+ billion firm headquartered in Rochester, New York. (Manning & Napier was the second-largest investor in Lotus Development before it was acquired by IBM.) The following positions are now available:

-- 2+ years experience in client/server development and multi-threaded application programming.
