    NLP Specialist for Software Development

    Cognia EU Ltd. is looking to hire an NLP specialist with strong software
    development skills to work on the development & implementation of Natural
    Language Processing applications for the Life Sciences.

    Cognia (http://www.cognia.com) is a fast-growing company that develops and
    distributes high-quality databases for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology
    industry. Each database brings together a comprehensive collection of facts
    concerning a specific area of interest to drug target research. These facts
    are curated from the scientific literature, which currently includes several
    million relevant papers and is still growing.

    The NLP specialist will join Cognia's NLP team in Edinburgh, Scotland, to
    work on the development of industrial NLP technologies that will contribute
    to increased efficiency of current and future database production projects.
    Technical areas of interest include document classification, named entity
    recognition, term normalization, and relation extraction.

    Cognia has an active interest in biomedical NLP. The company is currently
    collaborating with the Language Technology Group at the University of
    Edinburgh in the TXM programme, a GBP 5.3 million Text Mining R&D project
    funded by ITI Life Sciences (http://www.itilifesciences.com/). This project
    will deliver a system which uses NLP techniques to assist curators in the
    task of populating databases with information from the biomedical
    literature.

    Profile:
    - Post-graduate degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics,
    Artificial Intelligence, or other relevant field
    - Practical background in Natural Language Processing or Computational
    Linguistics, including experience with statistical approaches to named
    entity recognition and information extraction; previous work in biomedical
    NLP highly desirable
    - Strong Java software development skills, preferably in a commercial
    environment; experience with clustering and distributed processing highly
    desirable
    - Ability to focus on application-driven NLP Research & Development - Good
    communication and time management skills
