The Department of Telecooperation, Darmstadt University of Technology
(Germany) is looking to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work in the
    field of

Natural Language Processing (NLP) applied to eLearning in Web 2.0

The position is funded through the Research Program „Quality in
eLearning through Regenerative Processes” by the German Research Council
(DFG) and the Federal State of Hesse; DFG funding is limited to two years.

The focus of this particular position lies on the quality improvement in
eLearning based on NLP techniques. The candidate will cooperate very
closely with the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Group within the
Department of Telecooperation. This group uses and develops algorithms
in the context of Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval and
Text Mining applied to user-generated content in Web 2.0. This addresses
the challenges related to answering information needs, finding and
summarizing relevant information, mining structured information from
unstructured documents, and employing this knowledge to provide enhanced
information management capabilities and better quality of learning
processes. An emphasis is put on NLP techniques applied to eLearning
discourses that result from using Web 2.0 technologies such as wikis,
    blogs, forums, etc.

Candidates should have a PhD in computational linguistics, computer
science, or a related discipline. Working knowledge of German and good
programming skills will be a definite asset. We assume strong interest
in NLP and interest in eLearning as an application domain and
willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment. The Department
of Telecooperation offers a highly stimulating working atmosphere and
participates in multiple cutting-edge research projects and partnerships.

More information about the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing Group is
available from http://www.ukp.tu-darmstadt.de/ Further inquiries about
the group should be directed to Dr. Iryna Gurevych via email to gurevych
(at) tk (dot) informatik (dot) tu-darmstadt (dot) de. Please send a hard
copy of your application including academic references and a 3-pages
proposal for a research project related to the topics outlined above to:
