WiQA is a pilot task within the Cross Language Evaluation Forum
(CLEF) 2006 campaign. The task is aimed at providing
cross-lingual access to Wikipedia, in particular, at finding
relevant information in Wikipedia using relations between
articles.
The task is not factoid QA (question answering), but a mixture of
search and navigation. Inspired by the cross-lingual tasks at
CLEF, as well as the Novelty and QA tracks at TREC, the WiQA task
is formulated as follows: Given a source Wikipedia article P that
describes a person, organization or location, find short snippets
in other articles, which are important for the topic of P and are
substantially new with respect to P, i.e., snippets that can
usefully be added to the content of P.
This year, three monolingual tasks (Spanish, English and Dutch)
and one cross-lingual task (Dutch-English) will be organized.
Task organizers:
Valentin Jijkoun, Maarten de Rijke (University of Amsterdam)
César de Pablo-Sánchez (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid)
