Dear All,
In our school we are working on a version of an in-house online
concordancer that would log information about each registered user's
concordancing session, such as the search type and expression (incl.
syntax errors), (re-)sorting options, (sub)corpora selected, wide
context viewing etc. I am planning to combine such logs with
screen-recording and/or key-logging as well as with some tasks +
possibly questionnaire/thinkaloud procedures in order to study: 1)
users' effectiveness in concordancing (e.g. in adjusting search type to
resolve the task at hand etc.); 2) the concordancer's functionality and
ways to improve it.
The precise procedure and research questions of my (quasi?)experiment
are yet to be established. However, I would like to ask if anyone would
know of similar research based on logging/recording users of concordancers?
I welcome any relevant pointers, suggestions (also for screen recording
and key-logging software, concording functions to look for etc.), or
comments.
Many thanks in advance,
Przemek
