The project D1 "Linguistic Database for Information Structure: Annotation

(Germany) is seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in
    statistical analysis of annotated corpora.

The candidate will complete our research team, whose task is to provide
the technical infrastructure for building, maintaining and retrieving the
linguistic data collected in the SFB. Our corpus data is collected by
linguists with different backgrounds (historical linguistics, African

    languages, annotated at multiple layers.

The task of the candidate is to research and implement statistical methods
for analysing richly annotated corpora and thereby to support the
    empirical research in the SFB.

    The ideal candidate has:
    - a strong background in statistical analysis of corpora and data mining
    - good programming skills (in particular with XML/XSLT and script
    languages)
    - high motivation for cooperation with researchers from different
    linguistic fields
    - team working skills

An M.A. degree (or equivalent) in computational linguistics, linguistics
    or related fields is required.

The position is for 1.5 years (18 months) and is renewable contingent on
the availability of funding extension. The candidate should start as soon
as possible, but no later than Dec. 1, 2005. The salary is determined by
the German civil servants payscale (Verguetungsgruppe BAT-O IIa/2). The
exact salary amount varies depending on age and marital status.
