I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for some
literature as regards factors to consider in the design and construction
of corpora aimed at capturing a particular dialect. My focus is actually
on a dialect of Scots (English) but of course would be interesed in
reading about the related issues of any corpus of dialect.
I am also interested whether a distinction has been made between a corpus
of dialect (i.e. defined by linguistic features) and a corpus of region
(i.e. defined by geographical boundaries).
Sorry if this a rather unfocused question, but I am only just embarking on
the construction of a corpus and wanted to start with a wide sweep.
I will post a compilation of replies for the list in due course.
Thanks
Catherine Shand
