PhD Position in Web IR in Amsterdam

The Information and Language Processing Systems group of the
Informatics Institute at the Universiteit van Amsterdam has an
opening for a fully funded three-year PhD position.

This position -- which is funded by a grant from the Netherlands
Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) -- is focused on
research and development in the area of web mining and retrieval.
Specific areas of interest are mining vaguely and/or
semi-structured web information, the retrieval of such
information, and the design and development of appropriate
    evaluation methods and test collections.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent person holding
an MSc in Computer Science or Natural Language Processing. The
candidate is expected to have or to develop a background in
data-driven research and software development for building
    experimental infrastructure. Familiarity with statistical
retrieval models and machine learning methods is an advantage,
since these constitute the base for the group's research
activities. The ability to proactively cooperate with fellow
researchers and good written and oral English language skills are
    prerequisites for this position.
