    I can really recommend one book and one article, the book is Michael Stubbs's "Words and Phrases" (Blackwell, 2001) [it contains lots of case studies] and the article is Michael Hoey's "A World Beyond Collocations: New Perspectives in Vocabulary Teaching" (in M. Lewis, ed. 2000, Teaching Collocations, Hove, Language Teaching Publications, pp. 224-43).
