    Dictionary Writing Systems

    A dictionary writing system (DWS) is a piece of software for writing
    and producing a dictionary.  It might include an editor, a database,
    a web interface and various management tools (for allocating work etc.)  
    It operates with a dictionary grammar, which specifies the structure
    of the dictionary.

    The workshop follows a similar successful event last year.  It will
    include structured teaching, hands-on experience of a leading DWS,
    and some research papers and demos.

    Deadline for expressions of interest regarding research presentations
    and demos: 
           18th October.

    Intended audience:
        dictionary project managers
        lexical database users and developers
        lexicographers
        students of lexicography, lexicology, computational linguistics

    The structured teaching will include:

      dictionary grammars (including:
           design principles;
           XML and Document Type Definitions
           standardization initiatives (TEI, ISO, Concede)
           dictionary grammars for people and for computers
      requirements for a dictionary writing system
           publishers and lexicographers perspectives
      IDM Dictionary Production System
           using the editor
           task allocation
           querying the database
           merging in edited entries
       
    Trainers to include Adam Kilgarriff, Michael Rundell, engineers from IDM

    Fee: GBP90 for the two days to include lunches and a dinner, with half rate
    for full-time students.
