    The Department of English Language and Literature at University College
    London wishes to appoint a lecturer in Modern English Language with
    appropriate expertise in (descriptive) grammar/syntax and (some knowledge
    of) the history of the language. The Department is a Department of English
    Language and Literature, and the successful candidate will be expected to
    make some contribution to the teaching of literature. The UCL English
    Department was awarded an 'Excellent' grade in the 1994 Teaching Quality
    Assessment, and a 5*A in the 1996 and the 2002 Research Assessment
    Exercise. Applicants should send SEVEN copies of their CV together with the
    names and contact details (including e-mail addresses) of three referees,
    to Mrs. K Metzenthin, Administrator, Department of English, University
    College London, Gower St, London WC1E 6BT by the closing date. There are no

    Shortlisted candidates will be asked to send a sample of their writing, of
    chapter or article length, by the end of May. Salary will be on the
    Lecturer A scale (GBP20,470 - GBP24,435 plus GBP2,134 per annum London
    Allowance).

    The closing date for applications is Wednesday 15th May 2002. Interviews
    will be held in late June or early July.
