The successful candidate will demonstrate a mix of skills and research
capability in several of the following areas: natural language speech
technology (including both speech recognition and speech synthesis),
discourse analysis (how people do things with words), Computer-Human
Interface design (how should we communicate with machines?). Additional
qualifications include a background in computer science stressing
application design and knowledge of linguistics, anthropology, or
psychology. It is by no means expected that the candidate have all these
skills; we are looking for an appropriate mix.
Job description: You will aid in the research and design of a
next-generation user interface, driven by speech recognition. You will
assist in the creation/revision of the spoken dialog system (for American
English) that drives this interface and participate in testing and
refinement procedures in all phases of the development process.
