Where could I find information on proper rules for transliteration.
Something that would answer questions like: How exact can a proper noun,
a persons name for instance, be transliterated anyway? What, with
languages evolving and borrowing from each other so fast is it really
necessary to get the pronunciation identical? What about languages that
just can't reproduce certain sounds?
I am not a translator, just a student working on a project that has run
into a roadblock. Could you direct me in the direction that might help
me answer some of these questions?
