A symposium entitled 'Processamento Computacional
do Português' (Computational Processing of Portuguese)
has been scheduled to take place as part of the 9th InPLA
(Applied Linguistics) Meeting, between 30 April - 2 May 1999,
at the Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUCSP), Brazil.
This will be a one-day event, and the exact date of the
symposium will be made available later. There is a limited
number of places open for the event.

We invite proposals dealing with the use of computers in
describing the Portuguese language, as well as with the
development of computational resources for the analysis of
Portuguese. We encourage proposals in the following areas:
lexical patterning, syntax, semantics, stylistics, corpus
design and exploration, lexicography, artificial intelligence,
language teaching, discourse analysis, translation,
and pragmatics.

If you want to submit a proposal for a 20-minute paper, in
Portuguese or English, please send the following initial

The fees, which include participation at InPLA, are:
