Subscribers to Corpora may be interested to know that Edinburgh University
Press has recently published 'Corpus Linguistics' by Tony McEnery and
Andrew Wilson.

The pilot volume in the Edinburgh Textbooks in Empirical Linguistics and
one of the three core texts, this is the first up-to-date introductory book
in this area.

It takes the student through the subject's background, contemporary
applications and future potential. The emphasis throughout is on practical
understanding: end-of-chapter exercises give corpus-based questions and
essay suggestions; all technical terms are clearly explained; examples
throughout are taken from real language corpora; and comprehensive
appendices review the major corpora and the corpus manipulation software
available.

This is a thorough, one-stop introduction for those embarking on
corpus-based work.
