Of course! Why didn't I think of that? A quick search for "year anniversary" at
http://www.altavista.com
produces about 2000 (two thousand) hits, of which I can only be bothered to
download twenty or so (appended)

There is a lot of discussion going on about how to classify information on the
web. It hasn't happened yet.

Try the URL above. Or www.opentext.com or www.metacrawler.com -- all offer free
text searching for words or phrases, and all trawl through textual corpora
a couple of orders of magnitude larger even than the Bank of English. The
trouble is that nobody really knows much about the kinds of texts it is you're
searching.

It would be nice to try to persuade one of the existing sites to provide an
interface a bit better suited to the needs of corpus linguists!
Here are the thirty or so hits I got from AltaVista -- I put them through Word
to get rid of the HTML tagging which seems to have been a bad idea, since in
some cases it's the text of the <A> element which contained the hit (and which
Microsoft's ingenious conversion routione just got rid of). Serves me right for
using Word, clearly.
