SUMMER VACATION JOB AVAILABLE IN LEEDS

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: SUNDAY 7TH JULY

The AMALGAM project in the School of Computer Studies, Leeds
University, is looking for a temporary summer employee to
help us with our project Automatic Mapping Among Lexico-
Grammatical Annotation Models.
Specifically, the job will involve the following sorts of tasks:

1.- a WWW forms-based interface and email server to allow
remote use of AMALGAM software including multitagger

2.- WWW online tutorial on AMALGAM, to include John Hughes'
tutorial linked to software and datasets

3.- improved WWW pages for AMALGAM and CCALAS, to include more
links to relevant resources and other WWW pages at Leeds and
elsewhere

4.- transfer of `completed' AMALGAM software and datasets
and CCALAS www pages to repository area ~nlp; advertising
AMALGAM and CCALAS by getting our home pages linked to from
other popular relevant WWW sites

5.- exploring/testing the local installation of BNC, and
installing the client-server SARA software for PC access.

6.- indexing and documenting ~nlp user area, including
WWW index and links to local resources

7.- building `local' and `general' corpus-based NLP bibliography
files, in a standard format (?latex/word?) for use in AMALGAM
forthcoming reports and publications

8.- general filing and documentation of books, papers,
documents owned by AMALGAM project for future reference; and
finding, acquiring and testing format converters,
ideally latex2html, word2html, word2latex, troff2latex etc

The summer vacation researcher will be employed for 8 weeks
at about #200 a week; exact start and end dates to be agreed,
an (unpaid) holiday break is possible as long as the work
is completed by the end of September.

Applicants must have competence to complete the above tasks,
including cgi-scripts and WWW, some research expertise
in the AMALGAM field, use of unix and PC; and we need
to be confident that they will be available in Leeds to
complete the programme of work.
