Call for Papers and Registration for the

Fifth International Conference on

The COGNITIVE SCIENCE of NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING

Dublin City University, 2-4 September 1996

Theme: Ambiguity
One of the major problems for NLP and Speech Systems is the identification
and processing of ambiguous input. Original papers dealing with cognitive
aspects of ambiguity in NLP and Speech Systems are invited. Papers dealing
with other areas of Cognitive Science and Natural Language Processing will
also be considered, but preference will be given to papers addressing the
theme of the conference.

Both oral and poster sessions are planned. All papers will be published in
the conference proceedings. See below for details of submission.

Invited Speakers:
The following speakers have agreed to give keynote talks:
Sylviane Cardey, Universit/e de Franche-Comt/e, France
Alex Monaghan, National Centre for Language Technology, Ireland

This is a small conference, limited to about 40 delegates. We aim to keep
things relatively informal, and to promote discussion and debate. All
official activities will take place on the campus of Dublin City University,
three miles North of the city centre and five miles from the airport.

Submission of papers:

One-page abstracts should be submitted to the address below, to arrive not
later than the 7th of June: email abstracts are preferred. Acceptance will
be notified by the 5th of July. Hard-copy final papers (8 pages approx.)
should arrive in Dublin by the 16th of August. Papers should be in English,
clearly printed, with full references. There is no particular format.

Registration and Accommodation:
The registration fee will be IR#60, and will include proceedings, lunches and
one evening meal. Accommodation can be reserved in the campus residences at DCU.
A single room is around IR#20 per night, including continental breakfast.
Accommodation will be "First come, first served": there is a heavy demand for
campus rooms in the summer.
There are also several hotels and B&B establishments nearby: addresses will
be provided on request.

Abstracts and registration requests should be addressed to Alex Monaghan at
the following addresses:
